Jason Abshire, RN, BSN, MHA
Founder & President, GRIT’s Veteran & Senior Resources
Jason Abshire is the Founder and President of GRIT’s Veteran & Senior Resources (GVSR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for military veterans, their families, and senior citizens. Drawing on more than two decades of diverse leadership and service experience, Jason has built GVSR around the principles of Growth, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork (G.R.I.T.) values that reflect both his professional journey and his personal mission of community impact.
Born and raised in Gueydan, a small town in southern Louisiana, Jason began his path of service by joining the United States Marine Corps soon after high school. His time in the Marines instilled the discipline, camaraderie, and resilience that continue to guide his leadership today. Following his military service, Jason worked across multiple industries—including retail, manufacturing, oil and gas, firefighting and EMS, and healthcare—each chapter broadening his understanding of service, teamwork, and care.
While working in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Hendrick Health, Jason earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Shortly thereafter, his wife, Acacia Abshire, was presented with the opportunity to purchase and become the owner of Home Instead – Abilene. Together, they co-manage the organization—Acacia serving as Owner and Chief Executive, and Jason as Chief Operating Officer—leading a dedicated team that provides compassionate, client-centered care to seniors across West Texas.
Through his experiences in both the public and private sectors, Jason recognized a recurring challenge: many veterans and seniors were unaware of the resources available to them. Motivated to bridge that gap, he brought together a trusted group of colleagues and lifelong friends—including Robert Wakefield, from his time in the Marine Corps; Casey Holcomb, from Union Pacific Railroad; and Samantha Hill and Branson Hurt, from Home Instead—to form GRIT’s Veteran & Senior Resources.
Together, they established a nonprofit organization focused on connection, collaboration, and community empowerment, ensuring that every veteran and senior—regardless of background or circumstance—has access to the support, respect, and relationships needed to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.
Under Jason’s leadership, GVSR continues to expand its partnerships, programs, and outreaching to strengthen the network of care and support throughout Taylor County and beyond.
